Since its founding over 160 years ago, TAG Heuer has produced many innovative inventions, such as the first stopwatch mechanism and the first hundredth-of-a-second chronograph. TAG Heuer also developed the world's most precise timepieces for motor racing, measuring time to the nearest 5/10,000 of a second. The chronographs are still manufactured today in the factories in La Chaux-de-Fonds.

The history of TAG HEUER
In 1860, Edouard Heuer founded the Heuer watchmaking company in the canton of Bern. At just 20 years old, he was already producing silver pocket watches. In 1869, Heuer designed a crown-winding mechanism that was revolutionary for its time and could be wound without a key. In 1882, Heuer began developing high-precision pocket chronographs for sporting competitions. From 1914 onwards, Heuer focused on the production of wrist chronographs and stopwatches for professional use. Due to their reliability and precision, these were the first choice at the Olympic Games and alpine ski races. Over the next decades, Heuer established itself as a timepiece in Formula 1 and other motorsport series. Edouard Heuer eventually handed over the management of the company to descendants in the family, who developed today's well-known collections such as the Monaco, Carrera, Autavia, Formula 1, and S/el (today: Link). In 1985, the Heuer manufactory merged with the TAG Group.

The development process of a watch
The high-precision luxury watches are still developed and manufactured today at the four production facilities in the Swiss watchmaking town of La Chaux-de-Fonds. The goal in developing a new timepiece is always to surpass what came before and optimize the user experience. Development begins with sketches, which are refined into precise drawings. TAG Heuer combines high-tech machinery with traditional watchmaking craftsmanship in subsequent production. Exclusive wristwatches are created through numerous work steps, in which TAG Heuer incorporates watchmaking expertise and passion. Experienced watchmakers craft the watches with meticulous care and experience. To ensure the highest quality, the models are assembled in a specially controlled environment where the air is filtered. Extensive tests verify the water resistance of the cases, the accuracy of the movement, and the robustness of the straps.
TAG HEUER & Motorsport
From 1958 onward, Jack Heuer focused on the production of high-precision wrist chronographs, stopwatches, and professional timekeeping instruments for racing. In doing so, Jack Heuer laid the foundation for the brand's strong connection to motorsports. One special feature was the Mikrograph, developed after 1958, which was five times more accurate than previously used mechanical chronographs. As a result, the Mikrograph became the official timekeeper of renowned racing competitions such as the American IndyCar Series and Formula 1. TAG Heuer was the official timekeeper of Formula 1 for a total of 11 years, from 1992 to 2003.
TAG HEUER was also the first watch brand to sponsor the Formula 1 World Championship since its founding. Starting in 1969, the brand sponsored Swiss Formula 1 driver Jo Siffert. Two years later, TAG Heuer became an official sponsor of the Ferrari Formula 1 team and also equipped racing legends such as Niki Lauda and Gilles Villeneuve with chronographs. Starting in 1987, TAG Heuer sponsored Brazilian racing legend Ayrton Senna, whose favorite watch was a wristwatch from the then-revolutionary S/el series (now Link).
